Riverside Blooms is a micro flower farm on 2 acres in Washington Boro, Lancaster County. Our farm has been growing a variety of seasonal blooms in both high tunnels and field production since 2015. We specialize in high quality cut flowers for our own farm stand, regional farmers markets, and local designers.
The Grower’s Assistant will be involved in a wide variety of flower farm production tasks. Up to 75% of this position includes field labor and harvesting, while the remaining time will be spent doing sales prep and customer service. This position does involve a lot of physical labor and repetitive tasks, but provides the perfect opportunity for an individual looking to expand their knowledge and experience in cut flower production.
Schedule: This position is for year round employment, with the following specifications, due to the seasonality of our business. Position includes a minimum of 25 hours per week March - December and 15 - 20 hours per week January - February. The farm is closed between December 24th and January 1st each year. This position does have the potential to expand in the future. While we can provide some flexibility with schedule, depending on season and work load, the applicant must be able to meet the following requirements:
Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday at least 7am - 12pm in the spring and fall
Willing to work 2 Saturdays per month April - November
Must be available to work Friday and Saturday of Mother’s Day weekend
While the farm is closed on Sunday, this individual may be asked to work an occasional Sunday, to complete minor farm chores, in the event the owner is away
Reports to: The Grower’s Assistant reports to the owner/farm manager
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
Customer Service via Farmers Market/On Farm Sales/Bouquet subscriptions
General farm maintenance
Strong work ethic, hustle, and initiative
Ability to maintain consistent quality and aesthetic standards
Enjoys working outside (often in the heat/cold/rain)
Ability to persevere through tough and repetitive tasks
Strong problem solving skills
Enjoys working independently or as a member of a small team
Ability to communicate openly and in a positive manner
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, repeatedly
2 years of production farming or production horticulture experience
Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation
Comfortable Driving a full-size van
