Riverside Blooms is a micro flower farm on 2 acres in Washington Boro, Lancaster County. Our farm has been growing a variety of seasonal blooms in both high tunnels and field production since 2015. We specialize in high quality cut flowers for our own farm stand, regional farmers markets, and local designers.
The Grower’s Assistant position will be exposed to and involved in a wide variety of flower farm production tasks. Up to 75% of this position will be involved in field labor and harvesting, while the remaining time will be spent doing sales prep and customer service. This position does involve a lot of physical labor and repetitive tasks, but provides the perfect opportunity for an individual looking to expand their knowledge and experience in cut flower production.
Schedule: This position is full time, an average of 40 hours per week (Monday thru Saturday). Due to the nature of our business there is some seasonality to the schedule. The position may be required to work more than 40 hours during the spring and fall, while having less than 40 hours during the winter. While the farm is closed on Sunday, the Grower’s Assistant may be asked to work an occasional Sunday, to complete minor farm chores, in the event the owner is out of town.
Reports to: This position reports to the owner/farm manager
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
Use of small tools and equipment including but not limited to: rototiller, weed eater, lawn
mower, pruners, saws, rakes, leaf blowers, and hedge trimmers
Integrated Pest Management
Bouquet assembly and basic floral design
Farmers Market/On Farm Sales/CSA subscriptions
Sales transactions to wholesale florists and designers
General farm maintenance
Strong work ethic and takes initiative
Willingness to learn
Ability to communicate openly and in a positive manner
Enjoys working independently or as a member of a small team
Willingness to work in all weather conditions (can be extremes of heat/cold/and wet)
Good physical and mental fitness (must able to lift up to 50 lbs repeatedly)
Ability to persevere through tough and repetitive tasks
Able to take direction, ask for help and accept constructive feedback
Punctual and reliable
1 year of previous farm or horticulture related experience is preferred
Valid Driver’s License
